Don’t begin until you count the cost. For who would begin construction of a building without first calculating the cost to see if there is enough money to finish it? – Luke 14:28 NLT

Questions to ponder before planting…

1.    Why are we attempting this?

2.    Is this compatible to our DNA?

3.    What kind of church plant or venue will it be?

4.    Do we have the right leader? Can he/she build teams?

5.    Do we have enough resources to fund this?

6.    Who are the key people in our church that need to have buy-in?

7.    How are we going to communicate the vision?

8.    When would be the most strategic time to plant?

9.    How will we keep the campuses connected?

10.  How will we know if it’s successful?

11.  When will we pull the plug, if need to?

  1. Naeem – great questions my friend. Not asking them is really ‘asking for it’; wouldn’t you say. The question I don’t see on the list is “How far is your new venue from Blackened Swordfish Tacos?”

  2. Jason says:

Great questions! Not many people are brave enough to ask the last one.

  3. Steve says:

Thanks Naeem! This is a great list of questions for leaders to consider before they start a new church or site. Leaders who discover the answers to these questions will dramatically lower the number of serious mistakes that can be made when starting new ministry ventures.
